Highlights include a comfortable 300km drive from Yellowknife to Fort Providence where you will see the world’s largest buffalo along the way! When in Fort Providence, we will visit the beautiful Residential School Memorial constructed on the same site as the first Residential School in the Northwest Territories, which opened over 165 years in 1860.
Relax on a comfortable 65km boat ride on the mighty Mackenzie River from Jean Marie River to Fort Simpson, the same river canoed by Sir Alexander Mackenzie and his intrepid men back in 1789, over 235 years ago. Then on your 2nd day in Fort Simpson enjoy an extended day tour into the world famous and spectacular Nahanni National Park!
In each community you will overnight in surprisingly modern and relaxing accommodations in Fort Providence and an amazing B&B in Fort Simpson! While in Fort Simpson enjoy a wonderful and interesting evening tea and storytelling visit with local Indigenous Elders. Also, tour this beautiful community, which the local Dene call “Liidlii Kue”, established in 1804.
