Maximum 10 guests.
Welcome to the Northwest Territories! This once in a lifetime northern Canada wilderness and Indigenous culture boat expedition led by our very own, Joe the Dene guide. This epic journey starts off on the shores of the Great Slave Lake, one of the largest lakes in the world, then all the way down the mighty Mackenzie River, the 2nd longest in North America ending at the Arctic Ocean, an incredible boating adventure of over 1,800kms (over 1,000 miles)!
Experience the pristine, untouched beauty of northern Canada. Watch the land change with each passing kilometre as we make our way to the Arctic Ocean. See the flat lands of the Great Slave Lake turn into mountains as we pass through the Dehcho and Sahtu regions of the Mackenzie, then to the Arctic where you will see the Arctic tundra, amazing!! Â
When we leave Hay River, our starting point, we will spend the next 12 days and nights experiencing and exploring the untouched rugged beauty of northern Canada’s pristine wilderness and wildlife by river. You will be well taken care of by our team of with a team of 3 motorboats and 5 professional guides led by one of the world’s best wilderness and Indigenous guides, our founder and owner, Joe!Â
Also, on the adventure we visit 11 communities, almost all of them are Indigenous communities, one community, Jean Marie River, has a population of 77 people! Meet and visit with the local Indigenous residents of these communities. We will overnight in these communities, most have modern hotels and B&B’s but for 2 communities we will camp with sleeping bags and tents.
On day 13 of this amazing, once in a lifetime northern Canada wilderness and Indigenous culture we make it to the Arctic Ocean! We will spend a bit of time there acknowledging and celebrating the incredible achievement of the last 13 days and then we will head back to Inuvik for an end of journey dinner to share stories and reminisce about the trip and some well deserved refreshments and cheers. The next day you have the option of continuing on the Arctic Ocean coastal community of Tuktoyaktuk with a local tour operator. We can help arrange this.Â
