For this tour we are proud to partner with a local, Indigenous dogsled tour company, together we offer Yellowknife’s best dogsledding tour experience! What an exciting, fun and very cool northern Canada Indigenous experience, a Traditional Dogsled Tour!
Watch as the Indigenous guides take the excited dogs one by one from the kennel and harness them up to the sled, they are so happy! Get to know the dogs, you can pet the dogs, learn their names and get your photo taken with them. Every dog is friendly and likes to meet new people. Then get into the dogsled and get ready to be pulled by the excited team of dogs!!
Okay the dogs are ready to go, the musher asks if you are ready and then you take off, hang on! The dogs are strong and the take off is very fast, soon you will be traveling up to 30km/hr over the frozen lakes and through the snow covered wilderness of northern Canada! You are being pulled by 10-14 strong, dedicated, excited and happy dogs, WOW!! Enjoy the view and quietness of the dogsled ride as you swoosh thru the frozen wilderness.
When we finish, watch as the guides put the dogs away and take more photos with the dogs again. Then head into the cozy trapper’s cabin heated by traditional wood stove and enjoy delicious traditional bannock and hot drinks. Listen to the Indigenous guides tell stories about the dogs and how the dogteam played an important role in our daily lives in the old days, how they helped us survive. They were like family and we still treat them like that today.
