Drive the ice roads of northern Canada!
Drive the winter and ice roads of Canada’s north! This 9 day adventure will take you from the capital of the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife (pop. 20,000) to the small, isolated traditional Indigenous community of Colville Lake (pop. 129), a drive of almost 1,700kms, to the end of the road!
Drive across the Arctic Circle, experience dangerously low freezing sub-arctic winter temperatures. With windchill the winter temperatures could drop to a dangerous -50C! We will travel long stretches of the highways without any cell phone services, just the pristine beauty of Canada’s frozen north and us in our winterized SUV vehicles!
Our Indigenous guides have years of experience driving, surviving on these winter roads. They know these roads like the back of their hand and this knowledge is very important when driving the winter ice roads of northern Canada during the dangerous sub zero temperatures.
We will also need to watch out for those big rigs, the ice roads will be busy with ice road truckers as they deliver much needed supplies to the small communities along the winter highway system. We will visit nine communities on this winter expedition.
If you want to experience a true northern Canadian winter adventure, experience genuine Indigenous culture, test your yourself against the harsh and sometimes dangerous elements of the freezing Arctic and enjoy pristine wilderness and wildlife, then this adventure is for you!
All inclusive packages includes professional Indigenous drivers/guides, warm winter clothing, all meals, hotel/B&B accommodations and flights back to Yellowknife. Minimum 3 guests; maximum 8 guests per booking.
