What a great way to spend 8 days, canoeing and camping and reconnecting with your Indigenous culture on the mighty Mackenzie River! Spend 5 amazing days and nights canoeing and camping on the Mackenzie River!
Connect with the land, reconnect with your Indigenous culture and with yourselves. This canoe trip is designed specifically for those struggling with identity issues, who have been taken out of their culture at a very young age, have been almost fully assimilated into their non-Indigenous world and now are wanting to explore and embrace their true roots.
Our canoe guides are natural leaders and will teach you basic canoeing, paddling and camping skills. Our professional Cultural Life Skills Coaches and Counsellors are experts in their field with years of proven experience will deliver one on one counselling and general life skills and leadership development sessions on each day of the trip.
On this youth canoe and culture canoe trip, you will learn traditional on the land skills, survival tips, learn how to use satellite communications equipment, learn GPS and mapping, participate in team building exercises, learn about the Dene Laws and cultural protocol, and most importantly, you will learn more about yourself.
Day 1 starts in Yellowknife, all members of the trip and team leaders will meet in Yellowknife for introductions, meet each other and meet your guides. We’ll have a fun orientation session about your trip, we’ll go over the daily schedules, rules, protocols and expectations.
Over the course of the next seven days, we will all get to know each other, we will help and support each other. Each day will start with a safety and a review of the plan for the day and each day will end with guidance and sessions with our guides and respected Elders. Each day will be filled with learning new things, having fun, making new friends and learning more about yourself.
It will be a personal challenge to complete this, but we have the right team to help you along the way, imagine when we reach our final camping spot, the incredible feeling of accomplishment you will have, of what you just achieved!!
