    1. Day 1 Road trip to Fort Simpson, our starting point

We will meet at the Tim Horton’s parking lot at 8:00am, grab a coffee and maybe a breakfast sandwich and then depart Yellowknife at 8:30am. Along the way we will stop at North Arm Park to stretch our legs and then continuing on we will soon see the world’s biggest wild buffalo. We will stop for lunch at Big River gas station in Fort Providence. After lunch we will drive into Fort Providence for a quick visit and get some cool photos along the riverbank. Then we’re back on the road to Fort Simpson. Along this stretch of the highway we will stop and stretch our legs again at the scenic Sambaa Deh Falls. We will arrive into Fort Simpson around 5:00pm, where we will locate or camping stalls and setup camp. Soon we will be enjoying delicious BBQ meal. After dinner the evening is yours to enjoy or join our tour of the community.

    2. Day 2 We start our canoe journey on the mighty Mackenzie River

After an early breakfast, and after a brief orientation to the day’s plans and last minute safety check, we’re on the Mackenzie River! Depending on our speed, we may have lunch on shore or we may ”raft” up the canoes together and have lunch as we float down the river, taking this time to grab a short nap, write in your journals or just enjoy the view of the river. When we reach our first overnight camping spot we will set up camp and then it’s dinner time wow! What a great way to spend the day, canoeing and camping on the longest river in Canada!

    3. Day 3, 4, 5 Canoeing, camping and genuine Indigenous culture on the mighty Mackenzie River!

The next 3 days and 3 nights we continue our canoe journey following in the footsteps of our ancestors and that of Sir Alexander Mackenzie, who paddled this same route over 230 years ago!  Early morning breakfasts, stopping at stops here and there along the way, “raft” the canoes together for a relaxing lunch floating on the river, take some time to yourself and reflect on your journey then sit around the campfire to share stories, enjoy your soothing chamomile tea and then crawl into your tent for a good night’s sleep on the shores of the mighty Mackenzie River! If you book our Women’s Retreat canoe trip in August then you may see amazing Aurora as you prepare for bed! On the 5th and final day we arrive to our destination, you made it!! We will arrive mid afternoon. This is a nice camping spot, maybe a local Dene Elder will be there to greet us! After setting up camp, you will have to soak in what you just accomplished! Now time to relax those muscles and enjoy the day with your new friends and reminisce about the last 4 days on the river!

    4. Day 6 Scenic, relaxing road trip back to Yellowknife

After an early hearty breakfast, and after we pack up all the canoe and camping gear, we wait for the North Star vehicles to show up and pickup the group. We will cross the Mackenzie River at the Ndulee Ferry Crossing, then into Fort Simpson to gas up and get some snacks for the road and soon we’re back on the road to Yellowknife. Arriving late evening, home sweet home, what an amazing 6 days!! Thank you for choosing North Star Adventures!
