Our first day on the Mackenzie River!
After an early breakfast and after a brief orientation to the day’s plans and last minute safety check, we’re on the Mackenzie River! Late afternoon we will arrive our first camping spot, set up camp and then it’s dinner time wow! What a great way to spend the day, canoeing, camping and genuine Indigenous culture** on the longest river in Canada!
Canoeing and camping on the mighty Mackenzie River!
The next 6 days and nights we continue our canoe journey following in the footsteps of our ancestors and that of Sir Alexander Mackenzie, who paddled this same route over 230 years ago! Early morning breakfasts, stopping at stops here and there along the way, “raft” the canoes together for a relaxing lunch floating on the river, take some time to yourself and reflect on your journey then sit around the campfire to share stories, enjoy your soothing chamomile tea and then crawl into your tent for a good night’s sleep out under the stars on the shores of the mighty Mackenzie River!
We arrive at our destination of Tulita, you made it!
After 6 days of canoeing and camping on the river we arrive at our destination, the very picturesque Indigenous community of Tulita (pop. 477). We will enjoy a relaxing evening in this tiny Indigenous community, check into your B&B, have a hot shower, let the muscles heal and maybe check-in with loved ones back home as cell service is available in this tiny community. After dinner we will explore this wonderful community and meet the residents.
Climb Bear Rock today!
Today, after a hearty breakfast, we will join a local tour company and they will take us on a scenic 4hr hiking experience up the iconic Bear Rock. Bear Rock holds a tremendous significance in our Dene history. You will hear and learn about the Dene legend of Yamoria and Bear Rock. Back to Tulita, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy this historic community, meet the locals and enjoy our culture.
A relaxing scenic flight back to Yellowknife
After breakfast, and after a wonderful day in this very picturesque community you will board your charter aircraft for a scenic flight back to Yellowknife. Back into Yellowknife, check into your hotel or B&B and enjoy a delicious wrap up dinner to reminisce some more. Thank you for choosing North Star Adventures!
