    3-Day Camping on the Mackenzie River!

    Enjoy a scenic 300km drive from Yellowknife to Fort Providence in our comfortable tour bus. See the world’s biggest wild buffalo, visit Lady Evelyn Falls and then tour Fort Providence and learn the history of this beautiful community.

    Next day we spend the whole day boating on the Mackenzie River, including a delicious traditional shore lunch meal about 80kms down river from the community where we will also spend a relaxing evening camping on the shores of the Mackenzie!

    In the morning, after a delicious breakfast we pack up camp and the boat and we make our way back to Fort Providence, 80kms up river, then we pack up the bus and head back to Yellowknife.

    4-Day Canoe the Mackenzie River!

    Canoeing, camping and genuine Indigenous culture on the Mackenzie River! Drive from Yellowknife to the tiny Indigenous community of Jean Marie River and camp for the night. In the morning we canoe 32kms to our camp where you will enjoy a relaxing night on the land.

    Next day we canoe the final 36kms to Fort Simpson. After getting settled in, we will tour the community, camp in the campground and end the day with a delicious BBQ meal. Next day we are back on the road to Yellowknife stopping at Sambaa Deh Falls on the way!

    5-Day Same as 4 day PLUS the Nahanni!

    On this 5-Day option, you will do the same as the 4-Day option however you have chosen to stay an extra day in Fort Simpson where you fly into the world famous Nahanni National Park!

    Land at the incredible 315ft Virginia Falls, visit the impressive Cirque of the Unclimbables at Glacier Lake and then finish off Nahanni National Park tour relaxing at the oasis of the Mackenzie Mountain Range, Little Doctor Lake, wow!

    Arriving back into Fort Simpson late afternoon, you will be treated to a traditional cookout meal with a local Indigenous family and hear stories about our culture and about the old days, while enjoying some delicious foods!

    Next day we are back on the road to Yellowknife, stopping at the scenic Sambaa Deh Falls along the way.

    1. Day 1 Road trip from Yellowknife to Jean Marie River

      After breakfast we will hit the road. Along the way we will see the world’s biggest wild buffalo, lunch in Fort Providence and soon cross the Dehcho Bridge. A couple of hours later we arrive into the tiny Indigenous community of Jean Marie River, pop. 70. We will set up our camp and spend your first night on the shores of the Mackenzie River! A delicious dinner will be provided by the local Dene residents.

    2. Day 2 We start paddling on the mighty Mackenzie River!

      After breakfast, we will start canoeing the mighty Mackenzie River! We will paddle about 31kms heading north until we arrive at the traditional camping spot of Rabbitskin Creek where we will camp for the night. Enjoy a relaxing swim in the Mackenzie River, do a little fishing or just relax and let the muscles heal. Rabbitskin provides a spectacular view of the river, to the south and to the west. Enjoy this same wonderful view that Alexander Mackenzie would have seen 231 years ago!

    3. Day 3 We arrive into the village of Fort Simpson!

      After a wonderful relaxing evening, we are back on the river for another 34kms to our destination of Fort Simpson, first established as a fur trading post over 200yrs ago by the Hudson Bay Company, you made it! After checking into your hotel or B&B, enjoy an informative tour of this historic riverside community. After dinner feel free to join us as we do informal tour of the community and meet some of the local Indigenous people and learn about our culture or go for a leisurely walk around this scenic community.

    4. Day 4 A relaxing road trip back to Yellowknife!

      After breakfast, it’s road trip time! Sit back and enjoy the scenery of the Dehcho in our comfortable air conditioned van as we make our way back to Yellowknife. Reminisce with the other guests about your trip along the way. After a few hours, we cross the Dehcho Bridge and stop for lunch and a quick visit into the picturesque community of Fort Providence. Then back on the road, see some cool Buffalo and soon we are back into Yellowknife, home sweet home! Masi cho for choosing North Star Adventures.

      Fly into the world famous Nahanni National Park! Land and have lunch at the incredible 295ft Virginia Falls! Then a visit to the beautiful oasis of the Mackenzie Mountain range, the breathtaking Little Doctor Lake! We arrive back into Fort Simpson late afternoon just in time for dinner. After dinner shoot a round of golf at the Seven Spruce Gold Course, one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Northwest Territories, or go for a leisurely walk to enjoy more of this picturesque community.

    9. Day 5 A relaxing road trip back to Yellowknife!

      After breakfast, it’s road trip time! Sit back and enjoy the scenery of Canada’s north in our comfortable air conditioned tour vans back to Yellowknife. Reminisce with the other guests about your trip along the way. After a few hours, we cross the Dehcho Bridge and stop for lunch and a quick visit into the picturesque community of Fort Providence.
