The highlight of this tour is the genuine indigenous culture and the people and places of the Dehcho (Mackenzie River) region. You will receive the warmest of warm welcomes from the local residents of  Fort Providence! Other highlights include the 300km drive from Yellowknife to Fort Providence, boat on the Dehcho (Mackenzie River) to our Dene Culture Camp and see wild wood buffalo along the way!

You will spend 2 nights immersed in Dene culture at our Culture Camp situated on the shores of the Mackenzie River! Our Indigenous guides will prepare delicious traditional foods for you, you will learn traditional arts and crafts, you will hear stories about the old days as told by Dene Elders, you will participate in our traditional Dene Hand Games and more!

On your last evening, we will boat back to Fort Providence for unforgettable evening of traditional Dene Hands demonstration and then end off the evening by participating our traditional Drum Dance!

  1. Day 1 Welcome to the Yellowknife!

    Welcome, you made it! We will greet you at the airport and bring you to your hotel. After checking in, we will meet for an Orientation Session of  your Tour Package. Afterwards learn about Yellowknife on informative Sightseeing City Tour, then relax or go for a leisurely walk downtown. At 6:00pm we will bring to the scenic Old Town district of Yellowknife for a delicious dinner of local fish at the world famous Bullocks’s Bistro!

  2. Day 2 Drive to Indigenous community of Fort Providence

    Today we drive 300kms in our newer, comfortable tour vans to the small, scenic Indigenous community of Fort Providence. Along the way view scenery of the northern Canada landscape, and maybe even see wild buffalo! When we arrive you will boat on the Mackenzie River to our traditional cultural camp. After a delicious traditional dinner, enjoy traditional storytelling by our Dene Elders. You will spend the night here.

  3. Day 3 Traditional Activities at Culture Camp

    Your first morning in the culture camp on the Mackenzie River! Today you will learn more about our Dene culture. See Dene cultural specialists perform traditional Dene customs such as beading and sewing, fishing, setting snares and traps. You will participate in some of these activities to get some real  hands on experience! Enjoy more storytelling and delicious traditional foods. After another delicious dinner, you will learn our traditional Dene Hand games!

  4. Day 4 Boat back to Fort Providence for community Drum Dance!

    Today will be another day of learning our Dene culture and hearing more stories about the old days from our respected Elders. In the afternoon, we will boat back to Fort Providence. Enjoy an informative tour of this historic community and visit with local residents. After dinner the community will host a traditional Dene Games demonstration in your honour and then finish off the evening with a community Drum Dance! You will spend the night in the local hotel.

  5. Day 5 Drive back to Yellowknife

    After breakfast we will drive to Lady Evelyn Falls and once again reconnect with Mother Nature, getting some great photos and videos of you and the Falls. After this we will visit the tiny community of Kakisa  Then we drive back to Yellowknife, a relaxing scenic 4.0hr drive back to the capital city stopping along to take some cool photographs of you. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and prepare for a delicious dinner of local northern foods reminiscing about your amazing Dehcho Culture experience!

  6. Day 6 Fly home with wonderful Dehcho Culture Memories

    Today enjoy a warm, hearty breakfast and then we will take you to the airport. It will be sad for us to see you leave, but happy that we were able to show you our Dene culture. Thank you for choosing North Star Adventures!!
