Highlights include a comfortable 300km drive from Yellowknife to Fort Providence where you will see the world’s largest buffalo along the way! A comfortable boat ride on the Dehcho (Mackenzie River) from Fort Providence to Fort Simpson, the same river canoed by Sir Alexander Mackenzie back in 1789! A 700km road trip of the highway’s of northern Canada back to Yellowknife and of course the world famous and breathtaking Nahanni National Park, home to the awesome 315ft Virginia Falls and incredible breathtaking scenery, great photo opportunities!

Welcome to the 62nd Latitude on planet Earth! We will greet you at the airport and bring you to your hotel. After checking in, we will meet to go over your Adventure Package. Afterwards you have a choice to join our fun and informative Yellowknife Sightseeing City Tour, relax or go for a leisurely walk downtown. At 6:00pm we will bring to the scenic Old Town district of Yellowknife for a delicious dinner of local fish at world famous Bullocks’s Bistro! The rest of the evening is free.
Today we drive 300kms to the small, scenic Indigenous community of Fort Providence. Along the way view scenery of the northern Canada landscape, and maybe even see wild buffalo! When we arrive we will check in to the Snowshoe Inn, meet your river guides and choose to explore the community or take a short road trip to Lady Evelyn Falls and the tiny community of Kakisa. Go for a stroll and enjoy the wonderful scenery of the mighty Mackenzie River, meet the the warm, local Indigenous people and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase genuine, authentic Indigenous arts and crafts! Lunch and dinner at the Snowshoe restaurant.
Today we will start boating from Fort Providence to the Indigenous community of Jean Marie River. You’re actually on the Mackenzie River!! One of the longest rivers in the world! After a few scenic stops to stretch the legs, we arrive at the small Indigenous community of Jean Marie River (pop. 70) for a delicious lunch of traditional foods. Here, the local Indigenous women make some the most beautiful arts and crafts. Continuing on and again after a stop at a traditional Indigenous gathering spot we arrive Fort Simpson (pop. 1250), a fur trading community established almost 200 years ago!
Today you fly into Nahanni National Park! You will take off from the Mackenzie River on a float plane, soon getting a bird’s eye view of the majestic Mackenzie Mountains in the distance. First stop will be the breathtaking Virginia Falls, almost twice as high as the Niagara Falls! After finally pulling yourself away from the falls, it’s back on the floatplane and off to another special place, Glacier Lake and then if that wasn’t enough, you’re off to one of the most scenic and relaxing spots in the entire Nahanni National Park, Little Doctor Lake, this place is heaven on Earth, wait until you see it!! After lunch it’s back to Fort Simpson, wow! What a day!! (optional: choose an overnight stay at Nahanni Mountain Lodge!)
Today you will enjoy a relaxed pace drive from Fort Simpson to Fort Providence, 320kms away. We will stop and visit the scenic Sambaa Deh Falls. Afterwards we will cross the Dehcho Bridge that spans the Mackenzie River, your river! On the other side, we will stop for lunch and head into town and check you into your hotel and then explore this scenic riverside Indigenous community. Learn more about its history and meet some of the local residents. Then enjoy a quiet relaxing evening in your hotel.
Today we will drive back to Yellowknife, a relaxing and scenic 300km drive back to the capital city. Along the way we will see the world’s biggest wild buffalo again and stop at the scenic North Arm Territorial Park for some photos. Arriving in Yellowknife in later afternoon, check into your hotel and enjoy a wonderful evening of fine dining, reminiscing about your last 5 days. We will present you with your North Star Adventures souvenir package!
Today enjoy a warm, hearty breakfast and then we will take you to the airport. It will be sad for us to see you leave, but then we will be happy for you for what you accomplished in the last 6 days, not many in the world have done this, you did!! Thank you for choosing North Star Adventures!
