Authentic on the land Dene cultural experience in Yellowknife!

Spend a couple of hours on the frozen Great Slave Lake with a 100% Indigenous tour company at our culture camp. This tours give you an amazing opportunity to connect with us, the Dene people and learn about special relationships with the land, a land that we have called home for thousands of years!

Enjoy meeting and getting to know our Indigenous guides, hear their personal stories of experiencing and overcoming tough life situations, and how through it all, we remain steadfast in being proud to be Dene.

  • The Trapper’s Tent: Experience the warmth of a traditional trapper’s tent, heated by a wood-burning stove.
  • Fire Preparation:Help us build the woodstove fire, chop some wood for the stove and create the cozy environment inside the trapper’s tent.
  • Snowshoeing: Walk across the pristine snow of the frozen Great Slave Lake using snowshoes to experience the unique tradition on the frozen landscape.

 

Traditional Lunch Meal and Dene Storytelling

Gather for a delicious Traditional Dene meal of fresh Great Slave Lake fish or Trapline Buffalo Soup and our special Dene frybread (bannock).

While you eat, our Indigenous guides will share ancestral Dene storytelling and Indigenous language lessons, offering a glimpse into our Dene way of life!

Need winter clothing?

Stay nice & warm while saving on baggage space and cost! We offer winter clothing rentals to keep you toasty warm! Includes the world famous Canada Goose down parkas, insulated ski-pants, Sorel Glacier boots, warm mitts and neck warmer.
